I was tagged for a meme and I almost didn't do it because my life is not that interesting and I think this particular meme calls attention to that. But, they are just so fun...I can't resist them. I still fill out the email one that has been circulating the Internet since 1998. So here goes. Pretend that it is exciting, okay?
*
What were you doing 10 years ago? Hum. 10 years ago I was living up on campus in this tiny apartment with my friend Sarah. I had just finished what I call "The drunk period" (1996-1997...man those were good times), had an annoying ex boyfriend making trouble for me, was getting ready to start back at KU for the second time and had just started dating this guy, named Wade. He was cute.
*
What are 5 things on your to-do list for today?
-Pick up Rolling Prairie
-Clean my bathroom
-Paint the dining room table
-Play with Henry
-Mail Annie's package
*
Snacks you enjoy: I am a terrible snacker, mostly because I don't have an off switch. A snack is a little something one may enjoy on occasion....not me...I will eat the whole bag, box, bowl, whatever. My favorite "snacks" are Red Hot Blue chips and a avocado chopped into little pieces. I also enjoy yogurt covered raisins from the Merc bulk section, but I have to buy a small bag or I will eat them all.
*
Things you would do if you were a billionaire: I would move...immediately. I would sell my house and move. I'd pay off people's debts, donate, yata yata yata... Then I would go to pastry chef school and I would open my own bakery. I asked the mister this last night and he said he would be on-board with a lifetime of surfing, playing music and eating baked goods. Oh, and I would have and adopt lots of babies and travel around the world.
*
Places you have lived:Lawrence, Kansas --this is the part that makes me look extra boring.
*
Jobs you have had: Pharmacist assistant, stockroom worker, nursery worker, accounting assistant, biller, maid.

Green is great
My friend MC tagged me to list 3 ways that I live green. Well, sort of meme is right up my alley (who am I kidding, any meme is right up my alley)…so here goes-
1) Transportation- We have really been working on carpooling here in the Kelly household. We are trying to work out the kinks of having just one car with plans of selling the van and the civic next spring for something more reliable. We live so close to our jobs and are jobs are so close to each other, there really is no reason for us to have 2 cars, and honestly, so far it has been a really easy transition. Plus I hate to drive so it is good for the Earth and good for Mama.
2) Household- We recycle everything. We use energy efficient light bulbs and own energy efficient appliances. We are going to plant our first garden this spring and I am hoping to grow enough vegetables to stock up our kitchen all summer, plus some to can for the winter, and some for our friends and family {gardening tips would be greatly appreciated}. We compost our scraps and only mow our lawn when it is absolutely necessary (wait, that might have more to do with being lazy than living green) ;)
3) What we eat- Did you know that not eating meat, especially beef, is the best thing you can do for the planet? Why? Raising cattle for slaughter is a tremendous waste of water, a major contributor of pollution in our streams and rivers, plus it destroys rain forests and produces massive amounts of carbon dioxide and methane and many other things. This link is a fascinating explanation of why skipping that hamburger is so good for our planet. By not eating beef you will----
~avoid polluting our streams and rivers better than any other single recycling effort you do,
~avoid the destruction of topsoil,
~avoid the destruction of tropical forest,
~avoid the production of carbon dioxide. (Your average car produces 3 kg/day of CO2. To clear rainforest to produce beef for one hamburger produces 75 kg of CO2. Eating one pound of hamburger does the same damage as driving your car for more than three weeks);
~reduce the amount of methane gas produced;
~reduce the destruction of wildlife habitat, and
help to save endangered species.

Tagged
I was tagged by the lovely Ms. Supafly to produce 8 random facts about myself. I had to really dig deep for these guys because I was tagged earlier for a similar meme. But my love of list making took over and this is what I came up with. Feel free to play along if the mood strikes you, it's good clean fun.
1) I own 26 cookbooks and I continue to purchase more, although I rarely make any recipes out of them. One of my favorite things to do while Henry takes his nap is curl up with a cookbook and small post-it notes and flip through it marking the recipes I would like to fix…while watching food network. What?
2) We let our son run around the house naked, oh, about 90% of the time and it has backfired on us many many times. I wouldn’t recommend eating off of our floors.
3) We were certain that Henry was going to be a girl. The night we spent at the hospital while I was in labor we were able to convince the hospital staff of this fact as well. When he was born the doctor held him up and our delivery nurse yelled “It’s a penis!” Poor kid. Maybe this explains his current obsession with his “peen”.
4) I had a huge crush on my hubby for over a year before we started dating. At one point I reverted back to my Jr. High days and asked our mutual friend to ask him if he liked me. He told our friend “Not gonna happen.” Ha! He had no idea how stubborn I am.
5) I wrecked my car on my way to a psychology test my freshman year in college. My #2 pencil slid off my lap and down behind the seat so I turned for just a second to pick it up, popped the curb and slammed into a tree. It was the same tree that my older sister had hit a couple of years earlier.
6) I got kicked off of the volleyball team in 9th grade for being too enthusiastic, cheering too much and getting too into the game. I cried for weeks.
7) I have endured some monumentally embarrassing moments including jogging into a tree while being playful with a group of boys driving past, falling in a public restroom and standing up only to realize that my entire ponytail went into the toilet and was gushing toilet water all over my back, and falling asleep in a lecture class and waking up to the sound of snoring over the speakers and my professor pointing the microphone at my open/drooling mouth.
8) I decided I wanted to be a vegetarian in high school and so for dinner every night I would make myself chicken ramen noodles and add carrots and celery. Chicken Ramen = Vegetarian? Hmmm?
